Tony with his parents protesting Act 10

My name is Tony Castañeda and I am running for the Wisconsin State Assembly District 76.

I am a lifelong community activist, artist, radio host and musician who has lived in the 76th district for 45 years. I’ve raised my family, worked, and played in this community for a long time and I can’t stand by and watch what is happening to our country and the threat it poses to our way of life in Wisconsin.

It’s time to take a stand and fight  back against this attack on our democracy.

That is why I am declaring my candidacy for the 76th District in the Wisconsin State Assembly.

NO ICE IN WISCONSIN!  My grandparents immigrated from Mexico to the US seeking opportunity for a better life in a new country like everyone else in Wisconsin besides our Indigenous brothers and sisters.

My father worked the fields of the midwest before eventually settling in Racine, and with my mother, raised a family of nine. It is in their memory that I am running to represent you in the Wisconsin State Assembly.

Everyone has a right to seek a better life in this country. Immigration is not a crime, it is a universal right.

ICE activities affect our state negatively in many ways. Dane County’s Agricultural economy, which is the largest in the state, is already feeling the negative effects of this activity.

The negative impacts to our prized University of Wisconsin System include quotas on foreign student populations. (A reduction of nearly 500 students this year alone)

Wisconsin needs to take a stand so ICE doesn’t feel free to do to Wisconsinites what it is doing to our friends and neighbors in Minnesota.

Long before Trump,  State Republicans have chiseled away at our public commons either through chronic underfunding or attempts at privatization. Our public education system, our cities, towns and villages and our libraries have suffered while tax breaks for the wealthy and corporations seem to be the only solution State Republicans have for the myriad of problems we all face.

I will work to:

  • Fully Fund our Public School System and pay our teachers what they are worth! (Rescind ACT 10)

  • Stop the attacks on our democratic process. No gerrymandering and proof of citizenship requirements at the polls

  • Increase funding to  our cities, towns and villages so they are able to provide quality services

  • NO ICE in Wisconsin. Stop the raids!
